The Price is Right
#1
I feel like crap today so of course I'm watching The Price is Right which is what I did when I was a kid and sick. Boy has this show gone down hill. Drew announces "A NEW CAR!" and it's driven out by a...man? What the hell? Where's my beautiful blond in an evening gown? This isn't right at all! And Drew is skinny. Is he trying to beat some kind of insurance actuarial? Trying to get into that extra 17 year category? :jest: Of course I'm making jokes prior to being caffeinated but my point still stands. The announcer kind of sucks too.

I was reading in a health magazine in the doctor's waiting room that Drew was diagnosed with diabetes, hence the weight loss. He is trying to save his life actually.

But you are right. Back in the day, the host got great tailored suits, and the ladies got ball gowns, and they were provided "for promotional consideration" and the designers get credit in the credits.

Maybe Drew's viewer demographics lean towards the gay men's community?

The show lost a BIG sexual discrimination lawsuit in the recent past. There may have been a tell all book by one of the earlier models as well; I'm a little fuzzy on that.

The addition of a male model or two seems to have been part of rehabbing their image.

I thought this was going to be an Apple buy recommendation.

Vanna won a massive lawsuit on Wheel of Fortune. She basically has a guaranteed job for life as long as she adheres to the letter of her contract.

And the male model thing... Makes sense. I suppose the demographics on game shows are heavily female. I make no implications about that. I actually enjoy Jeopardy and Wheel. So does my SO's dad.

They've actually had quite a few Apple products as prizes. IPhones, nanos, iMacs, even Mac Pros of all things.

I have to resist yelling at the screen though. They never give even basic specs for the products. Not even simple information like if it's a 16GB or a 64GB iPhone; let alone if the iMac is the bottom of the line i5 or a top of the line, tricked out i7. So if guessing the price is any part of winning, as it often is, contestants are all but shooting blind.

But I guess they're probably thinking that only 1 in a 1,000 contestants are going to know a gigabyte from a hole in the wall, so why bother.

I don't watch Wheel too often but the one thing I have noticed is there are no close-ups of Vanna. She is 56 yo and with HD she probably doesn't want any close-ups. But I am glad she still has a job. As long as Pat Sajak (66) is the host, Vanna will be "turning" letters.

All the barefoot and pregnant housewives need a little AM tease before the nooner wine guzzling and afternoon fantasy soaps come on.

2 people on this forum won some prizes on the show when it was still Bob Barker as host.
