As goes Montana...

...so goes the nation.

[quote="“It’s not about encouraging a lifestyle,” said Rep. Bryce Bennett, D-Missoula, one of the Legislature’s only openly gay members. “It’s simply about respecting privacy between two adults. … It’s just as simple as saying that all Montanans deserve dignity and respect.”

Twenty-five Republicans joined all 39 House Democrats to support the bill, which removes gay sex from the definition of the crime of “deviate sexual relations,” a felony that carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $50,000.

I recall reading that there was a SCOTUS case some time ago that effectively made any 'sodomy' law unenforceable across the US. So this is more of a PR victory. I'm sure there continue to be any number of strange and unenforceable laws on the books all over the US.

I particulaly like the one about needing a chaperone when sheep are in the cab of the truck.

This would be more significant if the state's Supreme Court hadn't already ruled unconstitutional the law this bill is meant to replace. Functionally it's not very meaningful but I suppose symbolically it shows some progress, so in that respect I guess it's noteworthy.
