any issue with mounting an LCD TV with a larger screen size but lower weight than recommended by mounting arm?

say I have a 32" LED TV that weighs 19 pounds, but the desk mounting arm says it can handle up to 20 pounds and displays that are 24" or less. Do you go by the weight limit, screen size limit or what?

Weight limit is first. Size/length limit only becomes an issue if the arm is too short to spin the display more than 90 degrees.

Go with weight limit I say, as long as the VESA mounting pattern matches up and you have the right bolts it seems like size wouldn't matter.

my guess is the arm was produced when displays of 24" were about 20 lb. Meanwhile TV and Displays got thinner and lighter. I think it should be OK as long as the TV is not too large to hit the support arm or the desk when you adjust it.

EDIT: I type too slowly

thanks, guys. You confirmed my suspicions. I'll be sure to consider all the dimensions of the TV and mount movements before purchasing.

Overall, I was just hoping to avoid spending $100+ on a mount when it seemed like a $20+ model would do the trick.

Yes, the weight is fine, it's just the range of motion you might be lacking.

I'd bet money that an arm by the same manufacturer for a "heavier" monitor would have longer arms.

But it could be enough if you aren't too demanding.

Problem I ran into when I had a larger panel but it was well under the weight limit was that the mounting bracket was too small for the panel -- the holes were wider apart than the bracket, so the issue became moot.

Clay,

I'd be leery of mounting a 19 lbs TV on an arm designed to handle just 20 lbs. It'd be a touch too close for comfort. Any chance you can get a different mounting arm?

Robert, I haven't bought the TV or the arm yet...was just thinking about the mounting setup while researching my options!
