Help! Recommend Mail Client for Panther Please!
#1
Hi everyone,

Been having some problems with Thunderbird mainly being unable to "immediately" delete emails. They would sort of sit there without being moved to Trash. You have to either restart TB or you have to move to another account and move back thereby "refreshing" the Inbox in question. Sometimes you even have to delete something in another Inbox before you can delete the message that you really want to delete in the first box!

Anyways, I've tried getting help through the Mozilla forums and even compacting the folders in question don't work. BTW, this account is an IMAP account...you don't compact but you set TB to "expunge" upon exit. Compacting only works if you have a POP account.

So, should I go to Eudora 6.2 or should I go to Entourage. I need something that can handle multiple third-party POP and IMAP accounts. Thanks!

I'm using two dot.mac accounts and a POP with mail.app.

No... you don't have the kind of HTML mail control like you get with Netscape, but I've cut way back on that anyway, though I used to use it and ONLY it.

I've never used Entourage. On principle. Others who like Eudora swear by it like a peecee using scum of the earth cretin (you know who you are!), but I've only tried it a few times and thought "what is the big deal? You can't do squat with this!"

What are you IMAPing? Is it Netscape.net?

Please don't recommend Mail...it would be my first choice now that it's an improved version but I don't have Tiger and have no intention of upgrading to Tiger.

Hi jimmypoo...I guess my posting came just about the same time as your's! I have an IMAP account with Fastmail.fm.

Like I said before, I would go with Mail.app but the Panther (and earlier) version stinks.

I just started using Panther 10.3.9 a lot, and I've been impressed with how much better it is than the Jaguar version.

The only other thing I have used for both types is Netscape.

I'll have to check out Fastmail. (Like I need another email account!)

Fastmail is an excellent email provider. I've been using them for over three years now without a problem. Their mail storage is a bit slim at 600 megs but for the price and service they can't be beat.

Robert M. also recommends them a lot. I used to also recommend Runbox but their pricing structure is out of whack with reality.
