suddenly, the house getting "cold" overnight and dropping down to 61 deg doesn't seem so bad, afterall, although opening the doors and windows later in the day to warm the place up still feels a bit odd
All you warm climate forumites, be thankful...

Weather Service via CNN: at 8AM there was a 115 degree difference between Key West, FL and International Falls, MN. A balmy 83 outside my nicely air conditioned Miami hotel. -23 low for the schmucks back home.

I'm a cold climate forumite, and my furnace just went south last night...
First the car, now the furnace... at least I finally got my hackintosh I put together almost 18 months ago fully working with the proper sound driver so that Quicktime will load movies. g=

I may be an exception, but I love the winter, and love it when it snows. I *do* get tired of it after a while, I guess--when it gets dirty, and slushy, and when we get a lot of snow and parking on the city streets is a challenge. But overall, I really like it!

This is the way winter used to be and is supposed to be. :oldfogey: We're just spoiled by the warming trend many have experienced in their lifetime. The up and downs are what gets me. We have a week where the high is below the average low temperature for the day and then we have 2 days in the forties or fifties and then the cycle repeats.

I don't mind snow but the bitter cold gets me and we have had well below average temps for weeks now. It did get to the upper 30s and low 40s for a couple of days last week but it's back to Arctic now with colder temps coming early next week.
And we've been getting snow nearly every day-I just got back in from shoveling the 3 additional inches we got overnight! Thank God it's the skiers' dream snow; light and fluffy-perfect powder. But still, shoveling in 16 mph wind (for a value of -6ºF) isn't fun...

Let me put it this way - it's negative 7 degrees F without taking wind chill into effect. My daughter went to high school as usual today.
However, they have cancelled school for Monday due to extreme cold predicted - the first such cancellation since I moved to MN in 1995. I don't even WANT to know how cold it's going to be Monday! |
