amateur videographers...question about a mic
#1
Well, looks like I'm getting pressed into service to tape my sister-in-law's wedding Labor Day weekend. I have a Sony DCR-TRV27 mini-DV. I have a light and wide angle lens for it, but I'm unsure as to what to do about a microphone. I don't need a fancy wireless setup, just something I can attach to the camera that will pick up more than just the closer sounds. The Sony mic that is recommended is discontinued (ECM-HS1) and I haven't been able to figure out a decent replacement yet.The camera does have a "mic-in" jack, will any mic work? What have you had success with?

You'll want a nice external mic no matter what because there's a lot of background camera noise picked up in the camera mic. If they're using a house system of some sort, see if you can take a lead off of the board for that, then a smallish mic for ambient background sounds. But, that's a lot of work Smile

Not sure about the house system. Anyone know what the West Point Chapel uses?
