Tax year 2014 is when?
#1
I got a letter that asks for info about my "tax year 2013" and "tax year 2014." I am getting different info from my web searches. Can anyone tell me what dates that covers? Little confused if it means the calendar year or the tax return I filed during 2013 (or 2014). Thanks in advance.

On Apr 15 2015 you were supposed to file your taxes for 2014. I think you're over thinking this.

As an individual, your last tax year ended in 2014 and was the 2014 tax year. December 31st closed the book on tax year 2014, except for select transactions such as (but not limited to) IRA contributions which can be made for the preceding tax year up to April 15th of the current tax year.

Many businesses have fiscal and tax years that are different from the calendar year. I don't know if individuals can do that.

Some organizations use a fiscal year that is different than the calendar year. For example, where I work, the fiscal year starts on October 1. I think that the IRS allows you to pay taxes based on your fiscal year. Most people just use the calendar year.

Thanks. I have decided that what they are asking for is copies of one of my tax schedules for 2013 and for 2014. Oh fun.
