If anyone is interested - Sale on Corel Painter 2015
#1
I just got an email from Smith Micro offering 40% off on Painter 2015, taking the price from a list of $429.00 to $249.00. The offer expires 5/3. I was thinking of pulling the trigger as I used Painter many years ago and had always wanted to buy it.

However, I wanted to see if I could get a better deal and did so on the Corel site with a coupon I dug up.
I used a 25% off coupon I found:
http://ourcouponss.com/coupon/save-48-co...-discount/

which brought the price down to $199.00. There was a box on the order to apply another coupon so I used one I found for an extra 15%
http://dealsea.com/view/corel.com

and finally wound up paying $179.10 for electronic download. I don't know if there is a better deal out there but I couldn't find one.

Great price! I've been waiting for it to go under $150 for the upgrade, and it seems that it's been on perpetual sale, for 15% off (hurry now!), 20% (won't last!), 10%... Every time a sale ends anew one begins.

So I was able to get the upgrade for $89! If you own Painter 7 or newer you are eligible. I was afraid there for a minute as my cart suddenly reverted to full price. I had to delete cookies to get it back to finish the deal.

Can't wait to mess with the Particle Brushes.

I've been messing around with "Flame Painter":

Has some great effects for a low price (again, got it on sale for half off - about $40).

They are now offering a Painter type program called Rebelle:

It looks very promising.

Check out Amberlight while you're there

I have a link to purchase for $9.

These products need a lot of RAM if you want to do something large. The effects look cool at screen size, but are exposed with vector lines at larger sizes, so try before you buy.

They have free trials and demos.

Corel Painter 2015 education edition is $74 and they don't ask for any proof:

It's the same exact program but the splash screen says "Education Edition" and you're "not supposed to use it for commercial purposes"

I downloaded Rebelle and will try it out. Will let you know how close to Corel Painter it is for the watercolor brushes.

Rebelle is not too bad for $40 but it's still in beta and seems kind of complicated to use. Can't save brushes that you create. Of course it can't compare to Corel Painter, but for $74 for the Edu version, you get the full monte for only twice the price of the pared-down Rebelle.

However, if you are uncomfortable with the idea of using the Edu version, just buy Painter Essential 5 for $49. It's a subset of Painter 2015 and blows anything else out of the water.

By the way, here's a feature comparison of Painter Essentials and Painter 2015

Looks like Painter Essentials is a pretty good deal.
