Was watching my first movie on Tmobile BINGE to see if the DATA was going to my account.
Do some movies not go to full screen?, This was a letterbox format movie, so it had the black at top and bottom, but filled the screen left and right.

iPhone 5, 5S, 6, 6S, Samsung Galaxy everything recently, pretty much all Android phones, HDTVs, 4Ktvs all are 1.78:1 or 16:9.
Many movies are shot in 1.83:1, so little if any black bars. And many more movies are shot in 2.4:1, so you get black bars at the top & bottom on the narrower 1.78:1 screens.

It may be possible to tap (or double tap?) the screen and zoom the movie so that the black bars disappear, at the expense of losing some left/right content.
But I think I recall that on occasion that didn't work on my 5s.
As mentioned, there are different movie aspect ratios that we hardly, if ever, notice at the show, but make themselves noticeable on devices.
