I had the same problem with a Canon i570.

When I traveled to Ecuador way back when someone in my group fell asleep on the bus with her camera around her neck and woke up without it.

I cut an 1/8" piece of velcro pasted inside my Canon battery lid and works perfectly now. Others have sent to Canon with bad results.
