Can't send messages from my newly upgraded iMac

I've moved to an new imac and upgraded to 10.11 from 10.9.5 and my first real road block is that I can't send messages from the imac. In the prefs, all of my accounts are seen as 'inactive'

On my iP6 running 9.2.1 under prefs > messages > settings >text message forwarding I only see two computers - not this one. Not the old imac - is there something that I should have done from the old mac first? I deauthorized itunes...

nevermind... it was as simple as just signing in... at least I hope so...

Even got sms forwarding to the imac now - I always thought it didn't work because the old os was too old...
