"Starbucks changes rewards program; small spenders lose "
#11
Hi everyone,

I gotta say, this is a great change. Not so much for the people who want the points but for everyone who had to wait online as a barista rings up items. Two ring ups for two items, I can deal with. More than that? No. Not reasonable, in my opinion. I tended to get annoyed when people did it for multiples of items and took it to the next level when they did it when there was a long line of other customers waiting to place an order.

One time, someone ordering 6 items insisted on separate ring ups, despite a line of people behind her. Two coffee drinks and four snacks. At that, I politely but firmly I asked the barista not to honor the request because there was long line of people waiting to place orders. The look on the customer's face was venomous. Apparently, the world as we knew it was goign to come to an abrupt end if she couldn't get the extra stars. I didn't care.

The barista shrugged her shoulders and said she was told its permissible. At that, I stepped out of line and asked to speak to the manager. He was already on his way to the counter because the moran was raising her voice about me. After explaining the situation to him, he stepped over to the register and rang the order up as a single purchase despite loud protests by the moran. She gave me another dirty look and went to get her order. Everyone else on the line thanked me and I didn't have to pay for my tall cup of 'joe. One of the other customers bought it for me.

Honestly, I've never encountered that behavior and I'm in Starbucks almost every work day. Others here report that they have encountered that behavior so clearly it occurs, but I've never encountered it.
