Safari, cookies and the Costco Citi CC site
#1
I was trying to set up a payment for my new Costco/Citi CC account. I couldn't the site to work with Safari 9.1.1. I communicated with them about the problem via chat and was told to clear the cookies or use another browser. I was able to make the payment using Chrome. If I would have cleared the cookies in Safari wouldn't that have created a lot of work for me? And I had no guarantee that clearing the cookies would have solved the problem. Is it a browser or site problem? What happens if I do clear the cookies?

Do you have any ad/privacy blockers enabled in Safari? I recall needing to whitelist the Citibank site in Ghostery with FireFox in order to get it to function properly.

You don't have to clear ALL of your cookies (saved site-data and logins) in Safari.

You can selectively clear the cookies from a specific site.

What would you lose if you cleared ALL of your cookies? For the most part, you'd GAIN a tiny bit of privacy from sites that don't use any of the myriad other techniques for tracking your every move on the 'net... But you'd notice that you'd have to log into a few sites again (like this one) and if you don't have a record of each of your logins/passwords, that might be awkward to deal with.

All browsers allow you to easily search cookies so you could just have the ones associated with Citi deleted.

The Citi iPhone App makes managing the account very easy.

Each browser is a little different. In Safari, visit the Privacy Pref's and click the "Details" button. In the resulting window you can search for a cookie by site and delete the cookie.
