New phone, Android and iTunes
#1
I have a new phone, a Motorola Moto G5, which will be fine for what I need. I cannot in any way justify the cost of an iPhone. My previous phone was "smartish" but I never really took advantage of that as calls and the occasional text was all I needed, I had my iPad for anything else. This one has a bigger screen so I'm looking to see if it can be used more and one of the things I wondered about was playing music. My son-in-law visited today and he started to look at it after I asked what app would play music. I was told "Play Music" was the one so I then said how does my music get to the phone. Daughter and son-in-law started by saying about linking to the iMac and dropping music files across. I asked where to and s-i-l opened up the music library and was surprised to see my entire iTunes already listed. I'm not going to argue or worry but I did wonder how a Google Android phone had managed to access my iTunes library. I'm guessing it's a Cloud thing and my Google account was given permission at some point but can anyone tell me where I must have allowed that? I'm happy as the volume can be that much higher than my well loved iPod Classic and with my hearing loss that is a definite plus.

If you paid more than $130 for the G5 I feel sorry for you.
Google "iphone se walmart" and you'll see about 6 retailers with iPhone SE's for less than $130.
Maybe you can return your G5.

Many are showing out of stock, refurbished or only 16Gig. Plus I believe the model that is selling for around $130 at many places, including Best Buy, is the Sprint version. The GSM version that is used on AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon (Model A1662) is $149 for a new unlocked 32Gig space grey at places like Best Buy and Target. This is sold as a pre-paid phone, i.e. no contract, and they have them in stock, at least where I live they are.

perhaps Paul didn't want AT&T prepaid phone in the UK ..... or anywhere else for that matter.

I d&d my music to my Android. I never thought about linking as I prefer the files on the phone so's I don't have to count on bandwidth/signal.

I use jetAudio for music as I found it faster and with less ads.
Have no idea how you linked without telling play music your info.

You could use Android File Transfer to d&d, as I have, if at some point you desire the files on the phone (depending on the amount of disc space on the phone).

Prices for phones and contracts do seem to vary between countries and for those who don't know I'm the token Brit. I use a phone mainly as a phone surprisingly so my contract of IGB data, 250 minutes and 5000 texts is way more than I need and it costs me £3.99 a month. Any unused allowances get added to the next months amounts so I have masses to spare. No contract so I can stop at the end of the current month with no penalty. How does that compare?

Paul, what kind of data speeds do you get? That is a great price for that much data.

I have rarely used more than 1 GB of data in a month. I wouldn't want to worry about going over if I was relying on a direction app to get somewhere so I bumped my plan up to 2 GB when I got a newer phone.

Just tested it here in my study in a village and I'm getting about 0.9Mbps as opposed to the 31Mbps I get from my landline broadband. Just checked the speed on my iPad which is on a different network and that also is getting about 1Mbps but I do know that I have managed up to 8Mbps when in the city with it.

Do you have a MicroSD card slot in your Moto? iPhones don't and I added 64GB to my Android for a total of 96GB at a cost of $16 for the MicroSD card. All my pix and music are defaulted to the MicroSD card. Lots of space and if it's filled up, I pull it out, transfer to the computer, erase it and reinstall, or put in a new card.

Android File Transfer opens automatically when I plug in my phone. HTC Sync Manager opens automatically too and does a complete backup of everything to my Mac, including music from iTunes. Something they must have worked out with Apple, that's all.

And I don't feel sorry for Paul...

Yes, it was just popped out of the bigger card in my old phone so all my contacts and stuff came across and I was up and running immediately. As I only used the old phone for calls and texts I didn't have need of much backup but about every fortnight I connected to the computer and used an old free app that saved what was on the sim. With the new one I'm hoping to use it more so have logged in to a Google account and so everything is backed up automatically.
