2 year old iPhone SE, is it worth $131.25?
#1
I have a work provided iPhone SE 64 GB ATT in very good condition, from Jul 2016. I am changing jobs, and I have the option of returning the iPhone SE to the company (I am not sure what they would do with it, I think they will recycle it), or I could pay the "residual" value and buy it. They depreciate the phones over a 3 year schedule, so they said I would have to pay $131.25 if I want to keep it.

The phone is in excellent condition, always in a OWC NuGuard case.

If I pay, I assume they pay the balance to ATT and I could unlock it (I still need to check this).

or I could wait for Apple to release SE 2 and buy one unlocked on my own.

Either way I can keep the phone number. I have an older iPhone SE unlocked I could use for a few months.

The next job does not provide cell phones.

What do would MRF folks do?

Thanks

Does your new job give you a phone ?

I would have thought more than that, but eBay says that’s about right (depending on model, storage, etc).

that's a good price for a device with a known history. If you need it, do it. If you don't really need it, use the older SE.

Well, seeing as your new job does not provide a phone:
1. Do you need a phone
2. Do you need this number and the contacts that may be familiar with it
3. Can you afford an AT&T plan until you get it unlocked and can go elsewhere or whatwver
4. Sell it to me for $131.25 after you get it unlocked ( after an appropriate time factored depreciation of course )

Not sure what's available today, but IIRC, a couple of months ago when I checked, there were new service deals that included a free iP SE (of unknown storage). There may similar deals still available if you look around. Good luck.

Seems fair.

If you like the phone, it seems worth it not to deal with transition & set up issues.

I'd love to get a 64GB SE for my son for that price. He doesn't even need it to be activated, as he basically uses it as a game device. He has a 4s now that's getting long in the tooth. He has lots of apps and lots of videos on it, so we definitely need it to be at least 64GB. Been looking on CL for a 5, 5s, or SE but the prices are insane unless it's the base 16GB model. And even some of the asking prices for those are insanely high.

If you like it, I'd keep it.
