There area few ® Dou©hes who would like to carpetbag that seat. The D, Ammar Campa-Najjar, a Mexican/Palestinian - American (who the ® Douches assailed mercilessly on his "heritage") nearly knocked Hunter off last year (missed by just a little less than 3%) but it's a really redneck district. If Hunter does resign (there's been no signals yet that he will other than 'he needs to talk with the Speaker, etc. (like she'd waste time with him at this point). So we'll have to wait and see.
Issa was essentially harassed out of office by a strong, persistent group of local Democrats in North County. They didn't get the candidate they wanted, but did manage to elect a Dem to that seat. Of course, Issa maintains that he "resigned" to take care of his business dealings (rather than face the indignity of being trounced at the polls)
Issa's main name opponent, Carl DeMaio, was a city councilman, but has lost numerous other political races since that. He ran for mayor, but lost - in large part because his partner caused a public flap in Balboa Park which set off a wave of homophobia that's always lurking under the surface. His sexuality pales in comparison to the political damage he tries to create around here. He'd be a staunch Trump supporter - he sings that crooks praises on his daily news and politics show on local radio, so he's got plenty of name recognition among the deplorable.
Hope is that both Issa and DeMaio go H2H and leave Campa-Najjar a clear path to the seat. But hope is not the best strategy in that particular district…
