Ways to get a .edu e-mail address?

What happens if you buy a .edu address, and one of these companies find out that you aren't actually a student?

Depends on the offer. A lot of companies use another verification system in addition to having a .edu email, so if you're not an active student, you wouldn't pass the verification. But I have used my alumni .edu e-mail for an offer or two here and there (I think I got some Best Buy coupons with it).

I think adobe still has a student discount deal that requires an edu address - that's a pretty big savings as I recall.

The "savings" disappear when you read the student license agreement, which says you can't use the software professionally with your license.
