Given the style and aesthetics of the house and the rooms you have shown in the pictures, the doors you have shown really don’t work well. I find it visually jarring, and they appear out of place. I know, it’s what SHE wants. They appear much more modern than the rest of the rooms, particularly if you stay with the black trim. You show french doors in one of the rooms and I cannot see a way to make the two door styles work. Perhaps a French style barn door? I don’t know if such a thing even exists or if it even should.

French doors are classic; barn doors are trendy; which one is likely to be appealing later down the road, say in 5-10 years?

not sure where you have seen images of the doors. I don't recall posting any images of the doors. The doors shown above are posted by someone else.

What she wants is this

She knows it does not fit the style of the house. She wants a balance between the old style and a modern style. I won't say NO. it's her dream. Let her be.

After seeing the door picture you just posted, I'd say it's in good hands.

What I was going to say -- is how tall are the ceilings?

It looks like the hardware might take up 8" -- and the opening might need to be lower than you think to make room for said hardware. And by association, the door height.

Perhaps picking a door first might be prudent to make sure they leave enough room for mounting...

If they built the opening to traditional french door sizes the barn door might not fit.

I would think that part of the goal would be to make them look like they were part of the house, as opposed to not?

I apologize for posting a "barn door" in a style that very few people could see was just an example of non-pocket sliding doors, that did not fit into the previous owners taste. It is very easy to change the style and height of the doors, and even hide the sliding mechanism with a wooden valence or soft fabrics.
