These are the "two events" that Graham says make it OK for him to do the complete reverse of what he said he'd do:

I stand by what I said in Jan. 2019: Harry Reid & Chuck Schumer changed Senate rules to try and stack the courts for Obama. Now it's coming back to haunt them as I predicted. I'm dead set on confirming realDonaldTrump’s nominee.


Harry Reid changed the rules to allow a simple majority vote for Circuit Court nominees dealing out the minority.

Chuck Schumer and his friends in the liberal media conspired to destroy the life of Brett Kavanaugh and hold that Supreme Court seat open.

Brett Kavanaugh was and still is unqualified for the position. That has nothing to do with his sexual assault allegations.

...after the Republicans decided they would block every one of Obama’s judicial nominees indefinitely. And that rule change was in 2013, long before Graham’s “Use my words against me” quote. Furthermore,

The rule change does not apply to Supreme Court nominees, who are still subject to a 60-vote filibuster threshold, or to legislation.

GOP hypocrisy- that was then, this is now:

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) in 2016: I don’t think we should be moving on a nominee in the last year of this president’s term -I would say that if it was a Republican president.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), 2016: It has been 80 years since a Supreme Court vacancy was nominated and confirmed in an election year. There is a long tradition that you don't do this in an election year.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), 2016: A lifetime appointment that could dramatically impact individual freedoms and change the direction of the court for at least a generation is too important to get bogged down in politics. The American people shouldn’t be denied a voice.

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), 2016: It is essential...to the very health of our republic to not launch our nation into a partisan, divisive confirmation battle during the very same time the American people are casting their ballots to elect our next president.

Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO), 2016: I think we’re too close to the election. The president who is elected in November should be the one who makes this decision.

Sen. Burr (R-NC), 2016: In this election year, the American people will have an opportunity to have their say in the future direction of our country. For this reason, I believe the vacancy left open by Justice Antonin Scalia should not be filled until there is a new president.

Just shameless. I hope (and expect) that the American people recognizes not only the hypocrisy, but that this is underhanded and fundamentally unfair.

Alaska Senator Murkowski said Friday she would not vote for a justice ahead of Inauguration Day

Will she keep her word? Only if McConnell gives her special dispensation...

I wonder who leaked to her office the likely demise of RBG? She was clearly seriously sick for several days before Fridays end. I assume that Washington insiders knew RBG was on the way out. I kind of think that's why Trump released his nominee list, for the Senate to chew over, not us.
