Over the years I have seen people react in horror as I sat there and shared a Hershey bar with my buddy. Never had a problem and always in moderation (yeah, right!). Here's a link to a Vet info site on Dog Toxins and chocolate http://www.vetinfo4dogs.com/dtoxin.html#...20toxicity

If you read the whole article it tells you the toxicity level for each kind of chocolate vs body weight of the dog. Milk chocolate is the least toxic while bakers chocolate should be kept out of reach of both pets and small children - unless you don't like small children Wink

"I have been practicing for 20 years and I do not recall having a patient
die from ingestion of chocolate but I have seen some very excited dogs..."

"I think that the chances of causing a toxicity with milk chocolate are very
very low and I don't think it is a big deal if my clients share their M&Ms
with their pets but semi-sweet chocolate morsels and baker's chocolate
should be put where pets and small children aren't likely to find and
ingest them..."

There's also some great info on other lesser known toxins if you scroll up.

Since my post this morning "Lady" has been drinking water and seems to be as active irksome as usual to her buddy, our five years old terrier mutt.

AphaDog,
Regarding an emergency number of a nearby vet. There is a vet hospital just a couple blocks from our house. I had thought that I would have to depend on our regular vet at Banfields (7 miles away!) solely.

Thanks for the link Jack D. and everyone else for the helpful info.
