Both parties are undergoing a move in polar opposite directions. The progressives are creeping up on the Democrats while the wackos have the far right in the GOP. It looks as if the future will be one of no compromise or middle ground. Whichever party has the majority will spend most of its time reversing whatever the previous majority put in place. That is only true is the GOP wins back power in 2022.

False equivalency. The Democratic Party is moving left of center. The Republican Party is falling into an abyss on the extreme right; they have no moderates thanks to the propaganda from reactionary radio, Faux News, etc.
