Somethng like this...

For occasional use. Thinking something with "shiatsu" style roller balls will be too much. Just smile heat and vibration...

There are 50 different models... some for $50 and some $250... wondering if anyone uses one and sees the diff.

I did use one. Shopped around and got one of the highest rated heated massagers. It died just out of warranty. This is apparently pretty common and there are instructions online about how to rip the things open to get to the electronics to do things like changing fuses and re-soldering broken joints. Once you rip them open, you can't get them back together properly and they look awful.

I ended up getting an ordinary large flat heating pad from Target that has proven very reliable. It has a 2hr timer. I set it on medium heat at bed-time and sleep on it.

I have one very much like that that I got at Bed Bath and Beyond several years ago. List was $200, but I had a 20% off coupon. I didn't use the heat, but the massage part works well. Stopped using it when we got a full fledged massage chair. If you are anywhere near Orlando, I'd offer to sell it cheap and have you pick it up.

Thanks rz, 3000 miles away.

Wife just informed me she wants one with the shiatsu... but finding that hard to fathom because she gets knots in her back that are so tender you cant touch... even just rolling on bio freeze hurts. So thinking a shiatsu one will really hurt.

I'm taking Physical Therapy for back issues now. Teaching me how to use a foam roller after heating up my back.
Love the heat.
