Micro usb types?
#1
My in laws where given a Samsung phone to collect data from a pacemaker and phone the data home. It came with a super short cable and they would like a longer one. I looked it up and Samsung phones need micro usb so I ordered one but the connector is way to small. I’m googling but confused. Are there multiple micro usb sizes?

It's possible the phone is new enough that it actually uses USB-C?

Or it may be a weird one.

Quicker to find out if you have a model number. Newer models are switching to USB-C, really old models used mini-USB before they switched to micro-USB.

It appears the cable I bought is a Micro-B which was too small. I didn't have my glasses with me so I couldn't read the model number on the phone. I'll try to get that from my in-laws. Whatever I need looks similar to the Micro-B but is wider.

It's possible the connector on the phone is Micro-B USB 3.0, which, as you can see from cbelt3's images, is just a Micro-B USB connector, with an added section for the 3.0 pins. If this is the case, for charging purposes, a Micro-B USB cable would be just fine and would be inserted into the side of the connector it fits in. You'd only need the 3.0 cable for syncing at USB 3.0 speeds, and it should sync fine with USB 2.0 speeds with the standard Micro USB cable (which sounds like it would be fine for the intended use).
