Velcro straps for securing bike tire to frame for transport?
#1
Anyone see a problem with using long velcro strips to secure a bike wheel to a frame? Picked up some Yakima trays for the truck and they are the style where you remove the front wheel to secure it. (I'll post pictures of the brackets and bars I'm fabbing up later that will put the racks over the tonneau cover)

I have a ton of 1" wide velcro like this: https://www.amazon.com/VELCRO-Brand-ONE-...5?dchild=1&keywords=velcro+straps&qid=1617677433&sr=8-5

I would think it would be sufficient to hold the wheel to the frame, right?

I've got maybe a pound and a quarter, to a pound and a half of velcro straps that have been used for bike tie downs and bunch of other important tasks for decades. Nowhere near a ton, but even that small sample size of velcro straps has me convinced you have nothing to worry about.... as long as you stop, and look both ways at train crossings.

I've trusted velcro straps with my bright metallic red/black chrome, 58cm, Columbus SLX, Designer '84 Ciöcc, w/ full Dura Ace, since it was new in 1985.... and I won't even let Mrs. Buzz look at it, much less touch it; so you know it's safe. Some straps are only 3/4", and when the velcro starts losing its grip, it's their signal that it's time to replace the strap. Depending on where the straps hit the frame, you might want to wrap the frame w/ something protective... I use pieces of Naugachamois to protect the Ciöcc, but have been less compulsive with the rest of the fleet.
