Why do most dehumidifiers fail in about 2 years?

Danby. Took ours out a couple of weeks ago and it's doing its job nicely.

I know, if you are happy with Danby, so glad for you. I was reading a thread at SlickDeals (which is why I asked here) and everyone said they die in 1-2 years. Danny too. They just go back to Costco to return it and get a new one. How can Costco keep doing this?

I’d be looking to prevention and not treating the symptoms. Decisively seal the area from all outside air and add HVAC ductwork if needed. Done.

WHAT exactly needs to be cleaned / hosed off? My Heier dehumidifier has an easily removeable thin filter (it slides up and out of the front grill) which I do hose off monthly, allow to dry and then, reinstall. I've had this Heier unit for over two years and it works fine. Do I need to be cleaning off anything else?

Test,

Exactly. That's the only maintenance I do on the Danby models. Remove the filter. Clean it. Restore it. Done. Do the same thing with all of the air conditioners and air purifiers in the house. For the dehumidifier, I clean the filter and the bucket before I put the whole thing in storage at the end of the season.
