Anatomy of a lie

In WaPo's live updates there's a brief about how Ted Cruz criticized Biden "leaving Americans behind." A few hundred have chosen to stay behind, and the State Dept has been in contact with them, but facts don't matter to Cruz.

So he cites a tweet by RNC Research, a feces-throwing arm of the RNC. The tweet has a clipped quote from a CNN reporter sounding the alarm about an American family is desperate to get out (despite being told to do since what, April?) The CNN video clip links back to gop.com Huh?

Setting aside the irony of a Republican propaganda outfit citing a CNN video (aren't they "fake news?") you do not link back to anything other than original sources. It's just not credible. If they had linked back to CNN.com, a viewer might have learned:

The reporter left the country on the 20th, exposing the lied implication that the report aired today.
The family left the country on the 27th.

But the WaPo reporter cited the CNN reporter's segment as the reason why Cruz is upset at Biden -- instead of ignoring the whole thing like she should have -- so I emailed the reporter and told her so. It's all B.S.

Meanwhile, Joaquin Castro had a pertinent answer for Ted Cruz: https://twitter.com/JoaquinCastrotx/stat...5059554308

Wow. Great digging, deckeda!

Your Twitter link from Joaquin Castro also brings up the irony of the GOP’s response to their insistence that all Afghans that help us should be rescued from Afghanistan, and brought to…anywhere but their own districts/states.

State and congressional GOP lawmakers visited Fort McCoy [in Wisconsin] last week, including U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, who said on WISN-TV’s ‘UpFront’ he believes the majority of those refugees will arrive “for the right reason,” but remains worried “if somebody slips through and commits an act of terror.”

But in fairness, they were only following the cues of their glorious orange leader:

Former President Donald Trump claimed that the Biden administration could be bringing terrorists from Afghanistan to the US by evacuating Afghan refugees.

“…we can only imagine how many thousands of terrorists have been airlifted out of Afghanistan and into neighborhoods around the world," Trump said on Tuesday.

…which is putting the GOP into a bit of a logical bind (not that that’s ever given them pause before). How do you criticize Biden for not evacuating enough Afghanis who helped the US, without actually accepting these brown Muslim folks needing financial assistance into your communities?

Yeah the resettlements in Wisconsin will surely test the locals, no doubt brought up on, “not in my neighborhood” for where outsiders should be placed. They’re getting a lesson in the cost of wars: the aftermath.

One of the Twitter comments wondered if maybe Ted Cruz’ daughters could help resettle them to Cancun.

One hopes that it is just the usual BS to keep the base happy, and that no one with slightly more elevated critical thinking skills are pulled in.
