Top 2 vaccine leaders at FDA quit over WH premature booster announcement
#1
There is not enough data yet to support boosters for most people and the FDA has not recommended them yet. White House got ahead of itself to some very unfortunate consequences here.

Two Top F.D.A. Vaccine Regulators Are Set to Depart During a Crucial Period https://nyti.ms/3yy8TFa

"Dr. Marion Gruber, the director of the F.D.A.’s vaccines office, will retire at the end of October, and her deputy, Dr. Philip Krause, will leave in November, according to an email that Dr. Peter Marks, the agency’s top vaccine regulator, sent to staff members on Tuesday morning. One reason is that Dr. Gruber and Dr. Krause were upset about the Biden administration’s recent announcement that adults should get a coronavirus booster vaccination eight months after they received their second shot, according to people familiar with their thinking."

Lemon corrected me with more information. Thanks !

"Sources familiar with their thinking".... I find that not very credible, if those same scientists stood mute while 45 did his complete and utter insanity. Sounds like some fact checking with the scientists in question is necessary.

A year ago Dr. Marks publicly announced he would resign if the FDA prematurely approved vaccines under pressure from Trump. That did not happen.
You dont mess with the FDA scientists. Their independence is paramount.

You asked an excellent question.

And there could certainly be more reasons these people are quitting bit the timing is really bad.

Seems weird. If the President says people "should" do something they disagree with, why not just say so? Have they no voice? What about a "clarifying statement" that simply said they're lookin' into it?

My question is how independent are they, if the primary tool in their toolbox is to leave?

Do you have the data to support that?

Despite getting a vaccine in record time, we're a long way from knowing a lot about this virus. Or any virus.

Elected officials are desperate to deliver good news or just tell people what they want to hear. But scientists have a lot to do and it's understandable they don't want the public given false hope or told things that may not hold up.

Senior government officials get upset about 'turf' all the time. This is a bipartisan and recurring issue.

The FDA and the USDA argue every day about 'food' - the USDA governs what and how we grow, the FDA what and how we eat it...

The CDC and the FDA have major overlaps too.

Someone has to break the tie when there are legitimate disputes.
