it is very rare that any human can hear above 16k let alone 20k or 40k. That's not to say that none can.
Agree!
Very few speakers can actually reproduce 40k because _nobody_ can hear it. I think the appeal with the above product is that you are the weak link, so fool yourself if you can into thinking you hear something.
Pretty sure that listing was a joke, team.

There was a quite successful series of experiments done a while ago of transmitting high frequencies in public places at night that were notorious for marauding gangs of younger people. It couldn't be heard by older people but made the younger ones feel 'out of sorts' so would disperse.
I'm considering deploying this against my too-loud young upstairs neighbors - just have to figure out the delivery mechanism.

I used to torture my kids with a 20K tone, loud.
I couldn't hear it, but they would come out and say "What is that"
At max volume, I still could not hear it, but I could feel the sound pressure in my ears.

There's a graph of the effect of age on hearing somewhere, and it's pretty depressing. So much so, that I'm not going to look for it so I can post it.
Fwiw, I used to listen to terrible music because it was recorded so well, and I'm totally, so over that. If it's great music on a old clock radio, that's good enough to be enjoyed, for me. So as long as I can hear what's happening musically, I'm happy. I don't care about the audiophile aspect, much. On the other hand, as my hearing gets worse, I think a good mix, and music with some space is more important, not less.
