Overlooked this one, It's International Holocaust Remembrance Day
#1
In remembrance of all the victims of Hitler's final solution.
Evil seeks out those who forget or deny the suffering of the innocent.
Don't assist evil, never forget the horrible events of the past and teach
your children to never neglect the horrors of evil.

(fail to understand why Apple has neglected to include this on Calendar.app)

Anne Klein - this is for you.

A survivor, she was one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Her name is on the Kentucky law requiring teaching of the Holocaust in Kentucky schools. We miss you.

My Dad toured Dachau days after it was liberated. His unit was positioned nearby but not the actual liberators. His CO felt it was important that his men see the atrocity.

Three pendants bearing the Hebrew prayer shema yisrael ("Hear O Israel") have been excavated at the Sobibor extermination camp in Poland, the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) announced on Thursday.

Excavations at Sobibor - where approximately 250,000 Jews were killed during the Holocaust - have been underway for decades now. On the second side of the pendant is a depiction of Moses and the tablets. The team was led by Yoram Haimi from IAA, Wojciech Mazurek from Poland and Ivar Schute from Holland, and was assisted by local residents.

"Little is known about the stories behind the pendants, which are heartbreaking," said Haimi.

The same archeologists at Sobibor found four name tags that were traced to Dutch children murdered at the camp. Heartbreaking story.
