Wife is PISSED that there’s no 27” or bigger iMac. She doesn’t want to go down to 24”
Tell her to be patient -- iMacs are next.
Nope. 27" discontinued.
Just because Apple stopped selling Intel-based 27" iMacs today doesn't mean they won't release an M1-based 27" (or larger!) iMac later this year.
Perhaps. but it would seem to be a direct competitor to the studio + studio display.
Im betting the reason they didn't do the studio display in 32" was to not compete with the 32" pro display -- even tho thats a stupid comparison.
Yeah
maybe a 27" iMac, but I think no more iMac Pro. That was only ever meant as a stopgap to appease pros who were stuck with the 2013 cylinder, until the 2019 MacPro was released. Now that we have the MacStudio there is absolutely no need. I can think of no use case where a professional needs an all in one, aside from a true portable for which we have the MacBookPros.
More info on the topic - it appears that the 27" iMac is indeed pinin' for the fjords:

(Which is not to say that Apple couldn't release an iMac with a larger screen...)

I dunno how commenters or people in general seem to keep thinking Mini + Studio display replaces the 27” iMac.
Not even close. No GPU, only 2 screens, no ram upgrades, etc.
IF you could get a mini with 32 or 64 GB of ram... sure.
Whoever is out there waiting for a new 27" imac... give up. Its not gonna happen.

A lot of pundits are speculating that it's just delayed. Maybe for a long time, but still in the queue.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was a supply-chain problem with the 27-inch panels and the stands.
They couldn't produce both the new 5K displays and new 5K iMacs.
When the panels are more easily sourced and those finely-engineered height-adjustable legs aren't adding a month to the ship date, we may yet see new 27-inch iMacs.

I just dont see where it slots in the current product line up.
Is it $3000 base? = base Studio Max cost/specs + 5K screen -- but $600 less cause its an all in one? Or same $3600?
Or is it $5000, iMac Pro money? = base Studio Ultra cost/specs + 5K screen -- but $600 less cause its an all in one? Or is it the same $5600.
If I could get essentially a Studio + Studio display for $600 less... hell yes? But then no one would buy a Studio + Studio Display... cause what for.
Looking at the cooling and the fact they specfically mentioned "you will barely hear it" makes me think we *are* gonna hear it... and getting the cooling into an all in one might be tough (at least for an ultra chip)

For most purposes, the Studio replaces a $16K Mac Pro for $4K.
It brings the price back in line with the old Mac Pros that people could actually afford to buy new sometimes.
Doesn't replace the $22K Mac Pro.
But think of it as a Mac Pro in a new form-factor and it slots into the lineup very nicely.
...If someone can come up with a PCI expansion kit for ARM Macs, there won't be much reason left to buy a tower.

There are a lot of content creators that want more than 128 GB of RAM. Id take 128 GB if it wasn't unrealistic for my budget.
