Hackintosh w/ nVidia GPU? Watch Out! Web Drivers Certificate Revoked
#1
If you are running a Hackintosh and using a nVidia GPU not supported by Apple, you will run into problems if you need to reinstall. The developers certificate for nVidia was revoked last week affecting the Web Drivers they have provided so the Maxwell and Pascal based cards could be used with OSs up to High Sierra. There is a topic on this at tonymacx86.com - https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/320609/ with some possible fixes, and links there to discussion on MacRumors as well.

I ran into this with my Hackintosh after needing to reinstall from a corrupted drive. Had a brief power outage last Friday and it went down due to a bad battery in my UPS. Anload fter dealing with some issues doing the setup, hadn't needed to do anything besides install updates for years, got it mostly up and then it would blank screen after applying the last security update from 2020 that wasn't included in the High Sierra download from Apple. Once I figured out it was from the video driver not loading I switched to using the Intel graphics and went to reinstall the Web Drivers. That is when I found the package with the drivers couldn't be opened and went looking for solutions.

This will also be a problem if you were using the Web Drivers to enable more functionality with the Apple supported GPUs, or to install and use their CUDA support.

So is it just Maxwell and Pascal based cards that are affected?

It is all nVidia cards if you want to use the Web Driver package for extra functionality. If you are using one of the nVidia Kepler GPUS that Apple OEM'd, Apple's builtin drivers will still work up until where they dropped support with Monterey. The Apple drivers usually work with Kepler GPUs other than those used by Apple, but may have issues.

The will also affect owners of 2012 and earlier Mac Pros that have been upgraded with a Maxwell or Pascal based Nvidia GPU.

Could you spell that out for me (us)? Which (commonly used) cards would be affected?

Pascal cards would be the entire GT(X) 10 series such as the GT 1030, GTX 1060 or GTX 1080, and would include cards such as the nVidia Titan X.

Maxwell cards would be the entire GT(X) 900 series, the Geforce Titan X, and the GTX 745, 750 and 750Ti.

A number of 700 and earlier series cards have support from the Apple drivers because they, or similar GPUs were used as OEM video on Apple desktops and laptops prior to 2015. Some were still supported in Big Sur, Monterey dropped all support for Mac's that had nVidia GPUs.
