They need to include the Spinal Tap "11" setting.

that's what Spotty is, so they can compensate for the loss at 128kb.
louder is always better.

I realize these are streaming sources, but I wonder where theaters fall in that list.

Sometimes the content can be well outside of THX or some standard.

Even the ATSC levels alone don't bother me.

It's keeping the average volume levels for commercials at the legal limit, making them much louder than the content for which one has tuned it.

Then there's the issue of TV and movie audio with scored background music making dialog.

yea, we stay out of theaters for those reasons. and I'm not paying $20 for covid in the pass-around pack.

The commercial level thing is still annoying, in spite of the CALM Act.
Which apparently doesn't concern Hulu and some others.

The dialog level of posted shows and those links I posted a few weeks back, I have passed to many of my brethren. Unfortunately, that doesn't take into consideration what may be adulterated along the way to your TV.

When TV was still analog, I worked a live awards show that was so crushed on the return that we made the tech mgr call network ops to see what the "engineers" were doing to the signal before it left the building.
It changed the way every live event "zero" was sent to NOC.

Digital today & LKFS supposedly changes all that. But I just don't buy it, when the dialog is buried and others feel the same way.
