A Costco insider type of question
#1
If the physical store is closing out an item, but it's still available at the regular price online, will the store adjust the price of the purchased online item, if the receipt is displayed at the CS desk?

Better luck if you wear something skimpy and show cleavage...

or whatever floats the boat of the associate you deal with.

IOW, it's worth a try, YMMV, but you always have their return policy to fall back on so you won't lose anything but your time, worst case.

I'm not sure if they can do a price adjust on an online item since online prices quite often do differ from the warehouse prices. But you should be able to return it for a full refund of the online price and then purchase it at the warehouse price.

And I've learned that one can even negotiate with the manager on price. I once found a single unit of an item that was being sold online that the store didn't normally stock, they had no regular place to put it, not price tags, it was just on a cart in a corner of the store. It was from an online purchase that someone returned to the store, it was unopened.

I successfully negotiated a pretty good price with the manager, saying that I was doing him a favor taking it off his hands because they don't even have a place to put it.

you can always buy in store at lower price and return the online one, right there in store.

Yes, but I want to keep it. I only want them to adjust the price to the lower price, not to accept the return. (I have not bought the item online yet, I'm just hoping that they would do so. But, yes, I'd be out nothing, as Costco allows returns on nearly everything.)

BTW, I never learn my lesson with Costco deals: just buy a bunch and return what you don't want to keep. For some reason, I just never do that, perhaps because I hate returning items.

Need a little more info. Why not just buy it at the closeout price at the store, or is it sold out locally?

Costco has special prices in store that denote clearance or closeout stock which end in 7: like .57, .67, or .97.

what I meant is: buy it in store, walk out, walk right back in on the other side and return with the same item and use the online receipt to return it.

The one you bought online and it at home never leaves the home. (OK, I understand you didn't buy it yet, but I was just explaining how this would work in a normal scenario if they refuse the price match)
In fact I think this is simpler, cleaner and faster than a price match.

Just go to the damn store and buy one. You’d have to go there anyhow to do the price match / return. What isn’t being said?

Yea, this thread is weird. If it's in stock, just buy it at the store, since you'd have to go to the store either way. Maybe if your local store has quick returns, you might save some time that way. Mine doesn't, the returns line is always crazy, so I avoid Costco returns at all costs.

If it's out of stock at the local warehouse, then it seems like they'd be less inclined to do a price match...

I guess this only makes sense if the item is inconveniently large, like a furniture set, appliance, pergola, etc. Then you might not want to (or can't) bring it home with you, or bring in the physical item to do a return, thus the "price match from the receipt" inquiry.

But, if that's the case, you're trying to get the discounted price, plus (presumably) "free shipping". And because of the item's large size, that might explain the difference between the online and warehouse prices (online is essentially accounting for shipping). Whereas with the warehouse price, you have to provide your own "shipping".
