Canon dSLR feature subscription?

The rend it SAAS Software As A Service. Basically we no longer buy the software, we rent it.

Same thing happens to Hardware. Car companies push this model to pay subscription fees to enable features. during one of the meeting, someone said Canon does that with dSLR cameras.

Does anyone know which model and what features are enabled by these subscription fees? I am not familiar at all with Canon cameras. I am a Pentax guy and they seem to fall more and more behind these days.

I hate subscriptions. Either my camera does what I paid for or it doesn't. Having capacity built in but paying to use it just stupid.
