Massive Quaker Product Recall

Quaker Oats is recalling dozens of its granola bars and granola cereals because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

The company, which is part of PepsiCo, announced the recall Friday of some of its granola bars and granola cereals, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Among the products recalled are various flavors of Quaker Big Chewy Bars and variety packs, and Quaker Simply Granola cereals.

The products were sold in all 50 states, as well as in Puerto Rico, Guam and Saipan, the FDA said. Consumers should dispose of and not eat any of these Quaker products, the agency said. People can contact Quaker Consumer Relations at 1-800-492-9322 or visit www.quakergranolarecall.com for additional information or product reimbursement.

Was pretty shocked - Friday night I got a robocall from Costco. They saw I had bought one of the items and alerted to the recall and to return any amount to the store for a full refund.

Kudos on them being proactive. Smile

So... the impacted product list seems to be almost any granola bars or granola product with a best before date of Aug-02-24, or in a few cases Jun 03, Sep 01, Oct 01, or Jan 09...

What's Paul F to do if he discovers granola bars with an expiration date of Dec-01-18 in the back of his pantry? Is that old enough that it's safe to be eaten under this recall? Or is there some process deficiency in making all prior granola products that affects them?

Thank you for the H/U!

I buy Quaker granola products at Costco, and this week I have to hitch up and go into town.

Getting a call from Costco is great, but the idea of having to go back for a refund is annoying, so this works out well for me.
