The Boxery vs Uline for packaging and shipping boxes
Hi everyone,
In March, there was a brief discussion of where to purchase shipping supplies. My company uses smaller boxes with protective packaging for our products. The smaller boxes are then placed in larger boxes with additional protective packaging for transport via small package carrier (like UPS and Fedex) or LTL carrier on skids.
Here is a link to the thread:
The big name in packaging, shipping and warehouse supplies is Uline. As mentioned in the thread, Uline has been my preferred source for shipping supplies. They offer a level of quality that tends to be very consistent and overall superior to many of their competitors. They have excellent customer service in the rare time there is a problem with a product or order and/or when they are out of stock of a particular item. However, Uline isn’t the place to purchase goods, depending on your political views and/or in the event you let politics influence a purchasing decision.
For giggles, I looked at some of Uline’s competitors and, after taking into consideration price and shipping, decided to throw some business to The Boxery at.
I’ve placed two orders with The Boxery now and overall, I’ve found them satisfactory.
Dollar for dollar, Uline and The Boxery are competitive. However, there are some notable differences. Uline has a far greater variety of products and the quality of the boxes is overall superior. There are certain boxes and products that I cannot get at The Boxery. Uline has them. If I put together a box from each company, you can feel the difference. It’s tangible. The Uline boxes are stiffer and feel stronger. Fortunately, the boxes from The Boxery are still dandy for our purposes.
Shipping for the orders was less expensive with The Boxery since they used UPS for my orders. This came as a surprise since a similar order from Uline required the use of an LTL carrier. Although we are equipped to work with LTL carriers - it’s nice having a forklift, pallet stacker and pallet jacks - small package carriers are better for us since they more easily deliver during our normal warehouse hours. The same can’t be said for LTL carriers.
We’re definitely going to continue using The Boxerey for may of our boxes. No doubt about it. The costs are similar and, for the items we’ll get from them, they’ll ship via UPS or other small package carrier. That works for us. However, there are certain items that I’ll definitely only purchase from Uline. The Boxery either doesn’t have them and/or I know from experience the Uline version of the given item has proven itself superior to the same product from competitors.
