We lost a musical giant today. Rest in Peace Sergio Mendes.
Thanks for all the amazing music and for the inspiration.

One of my favorites, with Stevie Wonder on harmonica:

What an amazing time for music and particularly for music from Brazil and SA in general. I experienced it much later but it's timeless.

I (vaguely) remember …and Brazil ‘66 becoming Brazil ‘77.

Or am I imagining that?

Anyway, beloved music of my youth.

Ditto.
I liked his music, but my mother (R.I.P. 2004) was a total fangirl of Sergio's, as she also was of Herb Alpert's.
Herb is alive and kicking at 89 y.o., which is about what I had imagined Sergio's age to have been.
My (step-)dad's business interests allowed my mother to meet and know Herb thru the 1960's & 70's,
and she did get to meet Sergio a couple of times back then, too. They're both still in my iTunes library.
(Herb and Sergio, that is, definitely not my mother.)

R.I.P. Sergio; you certainly were a legendary musical genius.

Especially sad given his cause of death (which I won't mention in order keep this on this side).

I like this analysis of Never Gonna Let You Go:

You are not.

I don't remember when the name changed, but in 1972 I bought his Primal Roots CD.

I've got a few '66 vinyls and CDs, but that was my first '77 album.

Not one of my favorites of his, but there were some cuts I liked, so I was and am still ok with it.
