Gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em...

New Pixel 9 Fold Pro looks like a cool piece of kit.

I know, I know - runs Android. But comes with 7 years' worth of OS support.

Maybe, just maybe, there will be a competitor running iOS in our future, too,

Until then, the latest Google hardware looks intriguing to me.

But.. But...

It's a folding phone.

It's a gimmick.

Who could possibly want a folding phone!

At least those types of comments are fewer than they were in the past.

I'm not in the market yet, as my wants in a folder aren't close to being met, and... $1800!

But real progress is being made and somewhere down the line, it just may come to pass Apple builds one I can't live without.

If I live that long.

I don't need double the real estate of my 12 mini, I need double the size of what's already on its screen, as in the difference between watch a small TV and watching one double its size.

One of the longest-used piece of mobile tech was my folding Sony CLIE PDA.

Reminder that the CLIE is what Jobs used as his inspiration for the iPhone - go ahead, check out the iPhone launch. He knew ALL about the CLIEs, which were clearly the best hardware of their time. Only Jobs didn't list them to compare for the iPhone.

But I digress.

Would love a true foldable iPhone that opened into an iPad Mini. Just not going to happen - Apple makes more $$ off me buying both an iPad AND an iPhone.

So I will keep looking at the cool Android models...

I remember really wanting one, but was in a 'can't justify it phase'.

Fortunately I've shaken most of that off.

I think I will stick to a dumb phone for the time being.
