...override page styles? I'd like to give both Firefox and Safari 3 a fair shake but one of the features of OmniWeb is a must for me, and that's override page styles -- mostly so I can take a page like this:
and make it look like this:
I have some trouble reading white on black text -- or any kind of weird text/color thing -- so this ability is key for me. [ADDED]: FWIW, you can set site-specific (or page specific) preferences; it doesn't have to be set browser-wide, per se.
I like the speed of both Firefox and Safari. The use of the built-in system spell check in posting boxes (like this) is also a must; I know Safari does it but I've not looked into Firefox's (not interested in a plug-in, but rather the use of the system's own dictionary).
OmniWeb is great, and I love it and love recommending it, but it's not been updated in a while (as all the company resources are focused on OmniPlan and OmniFocus, as evidenced in the company blog, so I'm just about ready to jump ship.

I'm not sure if you are the same person who complained about the exact same thing in an earlier post, but if you are you should go back and read it. Someone posted a mind-manglingly simple method of reversing white-text-on-black sites on the fly that makes even Omniweb's (admittedly nifty) page stylings look awkward.

You mean the "control-option-command-8" thing? Not to sound flip, but that's ridiculous; I don't want to fark up the whole screen, just reverse the text on a single web site. And depending on the site (it varies, of course) the reverse isn't "pure". Trying it out (ctl-opt-cmd-8) I get green on white, orange on white, etc. on various oft-read sites.
Actually, there's no awkwardness to the setting the preference; two clicks and it's done -- and it's done every time I come back to the site.
FWIW, I'm not unhappy with OmniWeb; just wish they'd get a move on and update it. In the interim, I wanted to see if a few things could be done in Safari or Firefox that I couldn't figure out.
(PS, still loving that Dr Who sig image.)

There's no way, that I know of at least, to do what you'd like on a per site basis. Though there are preferences you could change to make ALL sites have a white background with black text.

The only thing ridiculous here is your attitude. You asked for a solution: you were provided one that a) works perfectly; b) works instantly; c) works on-the-fly on a case-by-case basis and d) is superior to the solution you already have.
I don't want to fark up the whole screen, just reverse the text on a single web site.
Why? What possible difference could it make for the perhaps-one-minute you'll be reading the site. It doesn't "fark" anything up: it works perfectly and undoes itself perfectly when you're done. Someone needs a NAP, imho.

Buttering me up won't work. Okay, it will. Sorry if I sound snarly, but you didn't say you wanted a magic cure that was both different yet easier to what you already had. Someone gave you a solution that works. If it's not for you, no problem, but don't diss it. It works.

Calm down, chas. I'm not attacking you personally. I don't think the 'screen reverse' is an acceptable alternative, esp on sites where I'm doing research (reading many pages) and copy/pasting text into a fuller document (for client work and other research).
But, yes, it works; no argument. Perhaps I sounded harsh calling it ridiculous -- again, though, not a personal knock against you. I wrote it passingly, not with an ounce of "you're an idiot for suggesting it" in me.
Still, the screen-reverse solution doesn't work perfectly (see my commentary on how the reverse isn't consistent; it doesn't universally change to black on white; in a few sites I've visited I've gotten orange, green, and even light yellow on white) -- granted, it may be a quick fix for a quick read of a line or two, but in those cases some white on black text isn't an issue. (Those of you who are susceptible to retina burn, like me, know what I mean. Reading a white-on-black web page for a while can be migraine-inducing.) Many of the sites I need to visit and review (including a lot of client interweb type things) are pages long. I usually just cut & paste the text into a TextEdit doc and do my review from there, but sometimes I need to see how the text flows on the page with images, charts, graphs, etc.
But, still, the solution I was looking for (per my original post) was not the screen-reverse but a similar preference type of thing.
No offense intended, no malice directed, and I'll get the next round (and a plate of nachos for the table as well).
And I still think the sig pic is cool.

Not as nice as OmniWeb does it, but it does remove ALL styles from a web page. Works on a per Tab basis (or I imagine per Window basis).

Yup, that does it. Changes the layout a bit but it gets the job done. Thanks.
