I'm looking for a nice clean modern serif font to use for some literature pieces. Any suggestions?

LOL, my bad =)

how much text? paragraphs? headlines?

Lagniappe is a display font

trajan (designed in 282 BC) and waters are caps only

Belucian, with its small x-height, might not be the best for long text, but great for pull quotes or headlines

how about something like Didot? Is that what you conisder "modern"?

I think I am going to end up with a sans serif font after all. Its for body text but not for lots of reading. So a sans serif would do fine. So now I'm playing with those. I'm kind of liking Avenir.

Avenir is nice, second or third runner up to trade gothic in my magazines

i could send you one if you would like to see it in print...
