Apple CFO hints at a "A Product Transition"
#21
[quote Paul F.]Transition from being a "computer company" to being a "gadget company"
Apple just announced that an all-time record number of Macs were sold in this past quarter. Macs were responsible for 60% of the quarter's total revenues.

So I think you needn't have any fear.

Apple will buy Quark to finally go all out, head to head with Adobe and then will buy Avid/ Digidesign so they can create hardware for FCP, GB and Logic. Steve will abandon IPods and IPhones and concentrate on new G8 computers.

The above actions will cause Apple to tank, allowing Steve to finally "sleep in" in the morning and give him more time to concentrate on a new suite of "i" apps called:
iGavult.

Solid state "hard drives" still cost too much and deliver too little storage. We'll get there eventually...

I saw it above, so I'll mention it again:

The Mac Mini transitions into the small Mac Tiny Tower many of us have been chomping at the bit for. Core 2 Duo or whatever is close to that - start at 2GHz, tray loading optical drive, upgradable RAM and 3.5" hard drive, upgradable AGP video card, maybe one or two extra PCI slots, room for one extra internal hard drive. Gigabit ethernet, airport and bluetooth built-in. Skip the keyboard and mouse, since most of us have plenty of those.

Basically a little baby MacPro tower, but slightly expandable. I would immediately replace all my G4 Mac Mini machines here at the office with these.

Price: $1299 or lower. I'm not good at figuring out where their machines and their pricing makes the most bang for Apple, however.

Why AGP and PCI? Even the last G5 towers abandoned those for the more modern PCI Express slots. How about one PCIe x16 and one PCIe x1 slot?

Mac mini 'tower' - includes 3.5" hard drive and two ExpressCard (whatever they are called) slots.

Laarreedamus predicts that anonymouse1 is closest:

the AppleTV and Mac Mini shall be as one, and Apple will have a full-fledged
media computer which one can use wirelessly with an HDTV as monitor, with
appropriate iTunes upgrades (will iTunes still be called iTunes, as its purpose
has expanded far beyond being merely a player and organizer of "tunes"?)
Of course, there will finally be HD TV shows and movies to download from
"iTunes" store. This will challenge cable companies, Netflix, the purpose of
movies on DVDs, etc. etc. all at once. And of course your iPhone can be a
touch-screen controller for this transformed product line.

Thus speaketh Laarreedamus.

The "product transition" is being described in the context being a hit to earnings. My guess is that this mystery transition isn't such a mystery...it's Leopard.

If history is any guide Apple will be packing in copies of Leopard and Tiger in units that ship right after the release. Apple will also be including retail copies to people who buy Macs at their BM stores for a few days plus the the Up-To-Date program. All of this product trasitioning from 10.4 to .5 has to be accounted for and is part of why Apple is now lowering earnings guidance from WS estimates.

That's what I meant... I can't keep track of what flavor of PCI the Mac is on now, and I didn't take the time to look it up. Is the AGP slot still called AGP, although faster now than when it was first introduced?
