I can't get the Bookmarks Menu to drop on one click. When I click it and release I get the spinning color wheel, then it suddenly opens and closes and after that I can get it to drop normally. After I've done this all the menus drop just fine for a while.

I haven't adding any peripherals for a while. Just added the Wacom Tablet, but that wouldn't make any difference because the problem was already there.

My only major software addition was Onyx, from which I ran just about every maintenance routine it listed IN ORDER TO FIX THE SPINNING COLOR WHEELS!

Looking at my list of recently added applications there's iGlasses, CopyPaste Pro beta, DivX Player/Converter, Firefox, Memtest and Toast 8 Titanium.

$tevie, my cookie preference is set to "accept cookies only from sites you navigate to." Aha! I'll have to uncheck that and try again. Nope, that didn't help.

I just remembered that I upgraded my Bookdog, bookmark alphabetizing application, to its newest Universal update. I do have a ton of bookmarks. I wonder if that had something to do with the problem? Also, if I didn't mention it, using Safari 3 beta might be the culprit, no?

That said, when I logged in to my "test" user account, Safari was a little faster and the bookmarks menu dropped like a hot potato. Of course, there were only the default Safari bookmark in there.

Craig, I don't feel comfortable using terminal. You described typing…

lookupd -flushcache

…then what? Is there a space between lookupd and -flushcache?

What do I do after I type that? What will that do?

As you can see I don't know my way around in terminal.

There are no input managers in my Input Manager Folder within my User Library. There are two in my Root Library Input Manager Folder. You only mentioned my User Folder, so do these count? They are Ecamm and SIMBL. Ecamm is necessary for iGlasses, an app that gives me control over my iSight camera in iChat. This is not a frivolous application as suggested in the MacFixIt topic.

I read the info on MacFixIt. I know that they say no input managers, but these were installed AFTER I was already experiencing the problems.

lookupd -flushcache

Type it and hit return. There is a space in between. It is going to flush your DNS cache. It probably won't help, but it won't hurt either.

As for your input managers- if you are sure that you had the problem before you installed them then I guess they aren't causing a problem.

Did you move your plist files?
Did you clear your cookies?

It is odd that you are seeing this behavior in both Safari and Firefox. This makes me think that it is some type of browser plugin or one of the input managers. I am particularly suspicious of the java plugins since I believe the redirect is done with javascript. And Safari 2.0 is doing the same thing as well?

Craig, except for com.apple.Safari.plist, I couldn't find the other files in my Preferences Folder???

Could that be part of my problem and, if so, what do I do about it?
