PCMCIA eSATA adapter for OS X?
#1
I searched and found some adapters, but they only mention windows drivers. No OS X drivers. here is some examples:

http://www.cooldrives.com/2ra01espccal.html

http://www.cooldrives.com/saii2pecapcc.html

http://www.satacard.com/pc113.html

So, do these work in OS X, and also, do they work in my powerbook G4/1.5 GHz 15"

can you recommend something else? Thanks

Don't know about PCMCIA, but I got this PCI-Express card (for my MacBook Pro) http://meritline.stores.yahoo.net/1x-e-s...scard.html from a link off "the other site," and it's despite the name of that site it's definitely NOT fully Mac- compatible (and to be fair, neither Meritline nor the manufacturer says it is). It works, but when you withdraw it from the slot (after properly powering it down from the menu) it crashes the computer...

It might be easier to find if you use Cardbus instead of PCMCIA in the search field. FireWire Depot used to stock other models but this seems to be the only one left.

Edit: When they first came out, I had the impression that all the resellers were rebranding the same card. It might be possible to buy the cheapest one you can find and use the SeriTek drivers but do not count on it.

is it zippety-quick compared to FireWire?

In the tests I've run (with a SATA-I drive, not a SATA-II), it delivers about the same speed as what FireWire 800 is supposed to deliver. Marginally disappointing but still useful as I can have a pretty damn fast drive on a separate bus than my Firewire 400 audio interface orcamera.
