Weird display in Entourage 2004

A friend is getting a weird font display in the list panes of Entourage 2004 (lists of folders, and lists of emails within the folders). It looks like some cyrillic font, not roman characters at all. The emails themselves read fine. When you open the Prefs window, the list of prefs (on the left) is in the weird font.

I created a new user and did not see the problem. I also deleted all Entourage-related prefs and the Office Font Cache, but no change.

Any ideas?

You could use a tool like Onyx to clear the OS's font caches, restart and see if the problem remains.

If it's still there after that then it might be a corrupt font or a font-conflict. Quit Entourage, empty out the ~/Library/Fonts folder and see if the trouble continues.

I thought there was one odd MS font that messed stuff up YEARS ago?

And you'll have to keep on fixing it. Happens on a pretty regular basis for me. Pretty annoying.
