Vista, XP, or Wait...
#1
I've got a 15" MBP that I love dearly. Had it since November. I'd like to run Boot Camp, partition and install Windows specifically for games and using MS Access (used at work).

I don't own a copy of any Windows at all. Should I track down a copy of XP, go for Vista (heard it runs well on the MBP and MP) or should I wait for the elusive Vista SP1?

Thoughts?

XP Pro. Not home edition.

Use VMWare and go back to Win98SE

Which version of Access are you using? If not the latest, then you should probably rule out Vista.

I've been using both, it's a bit of a wash. Vista does look nicer though.

I haven't found a single benefit to Vista. It is a resource hog of incredible proportions. SP1 will probably help a great deal, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I'd personally go for XP-Pro.

Thanks.

I've got MS Office 2007 through work. That's partially why I was thinking Vista. And I like the semi-familiar look and feel of it. Still, XP is (finally) somewhat stable now.

No. Well, there's a hack, but wait for MS legal and "patch team" to kill it.

IME, the performance hit for most stuff in Vista is minimal. If you have to purchase an OS today that you will use for years, keep in mind Vista will get better and XP will get worse.

What about the really cheap vista (basic) that has less of the interface glitz, etc? What's the huge downside? kj.
