Anyone use TrueCrypt to encrypt a drive?

http://www.truecrypt.org/

My boss is pushing me to get Dell laptops with fingerprint scanners, but they all seem to break or people's fingerprints vary over time such that the scanner doesn't work anymore. It can be fixed, but it requires not only the computer, but the users finger to fix it. For people that are obviously very mobile this can be difficult to arrange.

TrueCrypt supposedly encrypts the crap out of your boot drive and makes it indistinguishable from other random data on the drive. It prompts the user for a password after the BiOS loads, but before the OS loads. It sounds like Filevault but with some more robust features (and hopefully more reliable). Check out the feature list. It looks impressive to me.

Oh, and it is available for Linux, Windows, and OS X.

I think the Steve Gibson and Leo Laporte have discussed TrueCrypt on the Security Now! podcast. I've been meaning to check it out and ztirffritz's post may be the impetus for me to get off my fat butt and do some testing. I'll wait until I get my "new" iBook so I can use it for testing. I'll try and remember to report back.
