Anyone here edit Wikipedia articles?

Is it easy? Is it frustrating?

Easy, if you know the subject.

Easy . . . you can sort of figure out any formatting nuances from context.

Easy.

I've added a couple of entries, too... also made a few on the Wiktionary.

Subsequently, editors have added etymology notes or changed the phrasing to eliminate adjectives... which I then put back as descriptive sentences without adjectives are rather silly and useless.

Later, editors wrangled over my edits and after much arguing amongst themselves they decided to let the adjectives remain in the articles.

Editing is easy. I have several articles I have contributed to and keep an eye on. Here's what I have learned from the experience:

Getting past the self-appointed gatekeeper-editors on some articles can be difficult, especially popular, controversial or articles with a fan base involved. On these, use the discussion page to propose any bigger content changes or adding external links before editing directly, particularly as a new editor. (Minor stuff, like grammar, spelling, wordsmithing is usually welcome on any page any time.)

Documenting sources for your changes will help them stay. Many articles are sorely lacking in citations, particularly those in articles on obscure topics.

Don't edit it for personal gain, e.g. promote a website or personal business. The other editors can smell that from a mile off.

I tried to put something up once (for a friend who is a musician) but I got tangled in all the formatting. Then my article was immediately taken down. It was a frustrating experience.

I tried following instructions, but there seemed to be so many of them that I got lost.

Is there an easier way to submit information?

My friend has several albums, and has sung the theme songs to a couple of really notable films, but the editors seemed to think she wasn't famous enough to be on Wikipedia. It makes me wonder how the politics of wikipedia really work, because I've seen some entries for some pretty obscure people/places/things.

I guess my experience is not the norm, but I do believe that wikipedia scares off a lot of people from submitting articles... maybe it was meant to work that way?
wms out.

I've done it, but I can't get the little links to the source pages to work. So I let others deal with it.

I've done it too. Pretty easy, but my edits were basic.
