$29.99 After Rebate-200GB Seagate COMPUSA
#1
I don't like rebates, but for those who are willing to deal with the hassle, here is a deal.

That Seagate was the drive that I originally had decided to buy this weekend but I finally went with a Staples deal on a similar Maxtor model

On the Staples/Maxtor deal:

Pros:
1)Staples has free 1 day delivery in most areas so I didn't have to drive to CompUSA which I hate to do (and I saved gas)
2)the Staples rebate is ridiculously easy, you can fill it out online immediately after you place the order- no paper forms, no stamps, no bar codes, and they send you emails to update you during processing. The check usually arrives in less than a month.

Cons:
it's a Maxtor instead of a Seagate
it's $40 instead of $30

Staples also has cheap 50 pcs spindles of DVD+R or DVD-R for $5 (I am going to make some coasters baby)

Baby Tats - I ordered a Maxtor drive from Staples, but did not see get the $30 coupon savings indicated on the product listing. I also can't cancel the order online. So instead of $40 it's going to cost me $70. How did you get the $30 off your order?

Since my last post on this topic, I called staples.com customer service (800-378-2753) to ask how I get the other $30 off since I could not get the "coupon" to work. I was told that they had removed the coupon because too many people wait until just after midnight and pounce on the deal before anyone else gets a chance to take advantage of it. He volunteered to give me a credit on my Visa card for $30. Presumably they will do that for anyone who calls. What a strange way to handle it.

Don't worry about it being a Maxtor. Seagates ain't that hot.

I had two Seagates conk out in the span of two weeks, and I always paid a little more for the Seagates.

My Maxtors have never quit on me, ........ yet!

Save a copy of everything you send in for the rebate. I got denied the last time this offer was around, on the erroneous claim that I did not buy the product within the period of the offer. I did. But I didn't keep copies of the rebate materials. A $30 lesson, as I recall.

Those are both sweeeeet deals. I'd lean toward the Maxtor bt mentioned for the hassle savings. Although now that hassle has apparently increased! Wink

There is nothing to save. I have done a few of the Staples easy rebates with absolutely no problems. Like I said, you can fill out the rebate online as soon as you place the order and get the confirmation email- you don't even have to have the item in hand to do it. You immediately get a confirmation email back and the check comes within a month. The way rebates should be.

I used coupon code 85040 on the HDD for the instant discount bringing the final total to $40.

The Maxtor is going to be my backup drive.

walked into staples had hard drive & usb flash drives from "specials" table in hand before kid could find a pakage of stickies to waste some more $ on. rebates entered online quick & easy, and $30 instant rebate on HD was on receipt. gal at register had to dig out page w/ add'l rebate offer codes for flash drives from drawer under her register to use fore online entry, still pretty painless overall. nothing at CUSA seems to be that easy...
