Recycling computers...
#1
I'm getting ready to move and I don't need my B&W G3 350Mhz with 768 RAM and updated graphics card with 16MB RAM.

I'd prefer not to move it. I'd like to either recycle it through Apple or hope to find a good home for it here in Richmond. Has anyone gone through the Apple program for getting rid of/recycling computers?

I know I could donate it to Goodwill, but that would mean having to buy a new HD for it, as I'd like to keep the HD that I've got - it's got files from work that I don't want to risk falling into other hands. I can stick them into enclosures and still use them!

I've looked on the internet, and there seems to be a lot of companies that will recycle. Has anyone used companies to recycle other than Apple? However! If there's a MacResource person that wants the computer and is relatively close, so much the better. Comes with a ViewSonic 15 inch monitor. Gonna want to get rid of that as well.

I've got an eMac to replace it. =) The AlPB will still by my heavy lifter until I get settled, then I'm going for a MacPro! If I get a job, that is. What a headache.

Take it to Goodwill and just tape a note on it that say's "works - needs hard drive"
It will be gone in hours if not minutes.

Also FreeCycle lists on Yahoo or craigslist too - but Goodwill if you don't want to mess with meeting people.

OS X has 7-pass and 35-pass security HD formatting. I'd be shocked if that's not good enough to dissuade anyone who doesn't work for the NSA.

It's Richmond, VA. Sorry I did not include that.

Thanks for the suggestions! Maybe I will do Goodwill afterall.

Offer it to your local elementary school and take the write off?
