mini Mac mini? or Mac mini squared?
#11
Having been inside a mini (Intel) I don't see how they could make it *half* the size in *any* direction, without deleting something, and I see the optical drive as that something.

It *doesn't* "make sense" to me to make it smaller, but if that's what Stevie wants, that's what Stevie gets.

IF the rumors are right.

Slimmer iMac. Hmm. No optical there either? A new AirDrive, similar in concept to the Air Capsule? I hope not.

Faster, because of the Penryn? If that's the case, make mine the current flavor (SR?). Penryn in a MacBook makes sense regarding heat and battery life, I suppose. But unless they ramp it up at least 500MHz, will we see any of that "faster" at the rear wheels? Or will we need a benchmark utility to know that it's "faster".

I'm all for upgrades, but before Stevie gets my cash (for lesser cache) he's got to give me something more substantial than "New and Improved!" and a pitcher of Kool-Aid.

Better graphics would be a big deal. Like, say, blu-ray-class playback capable chipset.

when will the mini reach the size to fit on my wrist watch?

Steve-o got tired of everyone moaning about the cheap combo drives, so he said "let 'em buy externals!"

Or the bitchin' about crippled Superdrives which are horrible for ripping and limited to a 2.4X Max DL burn {not Apple's fault}. Since it appears no OEM will build a high speed slim DVD burner, external is the way to go.

yeah, I've given up on the lousy Matsu-whatever Superdrive in my C2D Macbook and use an external Pioneer for all my DVD needs.

sorry I paid the $200 extra for the Superdrive, will pick the combo next time.

That is one reason I bought the low end last gen. MacBook from Amazon. I figured for the amount that I saved by getting the combo drive I could get a good external DVD burner, if I felt that I really needed one.
